HOLIER THAN THOU?

GOD’S INVITATION TO A LIFE OF HOLINESS

“You must be holy because I am holy.” (1 Peter 1:16).

For many people holiness is closely tied to the idea of hypocrisy. Often, religion, the Bible, and church is often linked to the kinds of people who pretend to be holy, but who underneath it all continue to mask their own hypocritical attitudes.

While there can be some truth to this, we cannot lose sight that throughout the Bible, God’s invitation is for everyone who loves Him should learn to take holiness seriously. This is a difficult yet urgent challenge for us.

For the next few weeks, we are going to revisit the theme of holiness and what that means for us as a church. As part of the teaching series, we will explore the diverse ways the Bible address the issue of holiness and why those who came before us faced similar doubts, question and struggle to embrace God’s invitation to live holy lives.

Our hope and prayer is that we would let the Bible guide us to see how holiness is meant to be a gift and not a burden that seems impossible. Also, the better we understand a rich biblical picture of God’s invitation to be holy, the more we learn to embrace his strength which leads to deep and lasting transformation.
