A New Way of Living

Hearing and Living Jesus’ Teaching

In a world shaped by quick fixes and surface-level change, where teaching is often judged by how immediately useful it is and how quickly we see results, it’s easy to reduce Jesus’ words to a set of good ideas or helpful advice in times of crisis. But His teaching is far more than that. It reveals that Jesus is not just a good teacher, but one who calls us into a whole new way of life.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll take a fresh look at the Sermon on the Mount, a few chapters in Matthew’s Gospel containing some of Jesus’ most foundational teachings. Here, Jesus shows what it looks like to actually live in the Kingdom of God. His words will often challenge us and at times make us uncomfortable, flipping our own assumptions upside down, including how our culture understands what it means to be “blessed.”

As we walk through this teaching together, our hope is that we won’t just sense Jesus’ invitation to hear his words, but to put them into practice – not only when they seem useful to us, but to let them form us as a new kind of people, shaped by His Kingdom.
