Verses to Live By

Rediscovering How Scripture Shapes Our Lives

In today’s culture, we’re bombarded with so many ideas of how to read or use the Bible, often reducing it to inspirational quotes for bumper stickers or tattoos. At worst, these verses can be divorced from their original context and the larger story of the Bible and misapplied in harmful ways.

At the same time, Christians have learned to return to certain verses and passages in the Bible and to learn to meditate on them, as the Psalms invite us to do (Psalm 1, Psalm 119), as an invitation to encounter God, and to be shaped by His truth and love in different seasons of life or over the course of their whole lives.

Over the next several weeks, we’ll explore a few passages of Scripture, and our hope and prayer is that these will help you learn how the practice of meditating on Scripture allows it to take root in different seasons of our lives, stretching our imagination and offering hope, encouragement, challenge, wisdom, and a deeper understanding of God’s love. We also hope this series will encourage you to cultivate a habit of returning to Scripture, discovering passages that you can meditate on and carry with you through different seasons of life.
